Let me give you a full picture.
First off, let’s see what we have in the box.
When you open it up, you are greeted with an envelope that houses the SIM ejection tool, a warranty card, and a transparent TPU Case.

About its design, the back of the Spark 7p looks like it was inspired by the Oppo Reno 5, which actually is an aesthetic worth replicating.
The camera bump is almost non-existent and that plastic camera layout has a better appeal than the blacked-out ones from stereotypical 2020 phones.
Using it as torchlight has this halo-wy effect.
The back and frame are made from plastic and it does not attract fingerprints at all.
It’s neither heavy nor light.
TECNO Spark 7p Review in Kenya: Display
On the front, TECNO has taken us back to 2019’s Spark 4, with those thick looking bezels and dot notch.
The punch hole on the Spark 5 looks much nicer.
Asides from that, the display is also piss poor when it comes to outdoor visibility.
Now some AMOLED displays have this type of outdoor visibility issues under direct sunlight for example; The Pixel 5;
But when you find a nice shade, you’d see that the display is not even washed out at all.
The colors look decent.
Well saturated for a 720P display.
Lucky for you, Youtube no longer caps videos per your device’s max resolution but that doesn’t mean you should waste your data by setting it to 1080P.
We get 90Hz by default on here.
This gives you smoother scrolling.
And there is an option to switch to 60hz and then some custom option.
This is supposed to be a big selling point but I will tell you why it’s not that big a deal later in this Tecno Spark 7p review in Kenya.

We’re running on Android 11 with HiOS version 7.6 slapped on top of it.
Comes with a lot of the same features as the Spark 5 Pro.
But there is an addition of a few new ones like App twin that works like app cloner.
With this functionality, you can have two Facebook and WhatsApp apps on the same phone.
Quick settings is fully packed with everything you could possibly need.
Unfortunately, TECNO hasn’t done anything, yet, about the bloatware and ads.
They are like a lot, and not all of them can be uninstalled.
Spark 7p in Kenya: Processor
The Spark 7p uses the Mediatek Helio G70 Octa-Core CPU clocked at 2.0GHZ.
In fact, this is the same one on the Camon 16 and 16 Pro.
This is an adequate gaming midrange chip for the average user.
It is much more powerful than the Helio A25 CPU that ships with the vanilla Spark 7.
I didn’t experience slowdowns while opening apps or running them simultaneously on split-screen.
I hate how this feature can only split into equal parts.
As compared to Spark 5 pro, the Helio A25 CPU lags so much while using a split-screen.
As such, this is a big upgrade as far as the Spark series goes.
Spark 7p Kenya: Fingerprint sensor/Face unlock
Spark 7p in Kenya comes with a fingerprint sensor placement that is a little too high and a little too small.
This means that, while the fingerprint sensor is fast and accurate, it takes getting used to it to get your finger that high.
Then there is their less secure face unlock.
This one unlocks in every type of lighting and even in pitch darkness and even on your side view.
Gaming on Spark 7p
I tested Spark 7p in Kenya with a PUBG game, and it ran pretty smoothly thanks to its 90hz which gave it a high touch sampling rate.

The Spark 7p is powered by a 5000mAh battery and this is the one department that Spark series in Kenya has always excelled in and that has not changed.
Maybe you should keep the Spark 7p in 90hz because it still gives you more than a full day’s worth of battery life.

Camera review of Spark 7p in Kenya
The Spark 7p’s camera interface is pretty simple.
And oh, they removed the slow-mo feature that the Spark 5 Pro had but added portrait video.
Using it outdoors, the selfie camera is giving me low-end processing and washed-out colors.
This is what we’ve come to expect from the Spark series.
With portrait mode, the depth-sensing is actually not bad.
The primary camera has a better grip on contrast and saturation and is also more detailed.
The portrait mode for the primary camera is over-saturated.
If you compare it with the Spark 5 Pro’s camera, there is some improvement especially in skin tones and color accuracy from the primary camera but on the Selfie camera, Spark 5 Pro does a much better job.

Spark 7p price in Kenya ranges from KES 13,785 to KES 16,000 on Jumia Kenya.
While on Kilimall, the same model is going for between KES 14,199 and KES 14,499.
I feel like the Spark series is desperately trying to evolve and it is doing so by offering a 90hz refresh rate and a gaming chip.
It still has all the usual cons like a Micro USB port, cheap earphones, and the 720P LCD but these new developments have given the Spark series a hell of a kick.
I am thinking of adding it to the best smartphones to buy in Kenya.
