The Only Place in Kenya That Snows
In Kenya, the only place where you’ll find consistent snowfall is on the peak of Mount Kenya, also known as Kirinyaga.
This dormant volcano is the highest mountain in Kenya and the second-highest in Africa, with a peak elevation of 5,199 meters (17,057 feet). Due to its altitude, the upper slopes of Mount Kenya experience temperatures well below freezing, creating the conditions necessary for snow to accumulate year-round.
It’s important to note that snowfall at lower elevations in Kenya is extremely rare and usually occurs only in isolated instances. For example, in 2018, there were reports of light snowfall in some high-altitude areas near Mount Kenya, but this was a highly unusual event.
So, if you’re looking to experience snowfall in Kenya, your best bet is to head to the slopes of Mount Kenya.
However, be prepared for a challenging climb, as the conditions on the mountain can be harsh and unpredictable.
