GOVERNMENT escalates its assault on Kenya’s NGO community with a ban on AFRICOG. This follows the banning of Kenya Human Rights Commission - KHRC - yesterday. In 2013, AFRICOG filed a petition against the election of President Uhuru Kenyatta, a case that was sensationally executed by Kethi Kilonzo. Three weeks to the Aug 8th poll, AFRICOG Executive Director Gladwell Otieno filed a successful case asking the courts to compel Independent Election and Boundaries Commission to open voter register for public scrutiny. Observers view the deregistrations as “political attacks,” to prevent civil society from filing presidential petitions in the Supreme Court against the declaration of Uhuru Kenyatta as President in the just concluded elections.
